A website that gets visitors but generates no enquiries is not a digital asset — it is a digital brochure no one reads. The good news: most conversion problems have simple causes and straightforward fixes. Here are eight you can act on immediately.

Fix 1: Put your phone number where people can see it

Fix 01

This sounds obvious, but a shocking number of Pune business websites bury the contact number in the footer or make it available only through a "Contact Us" form. Most people searching for a local business want to call or WhatsApp — they don't want to fill in a form and wait.

Put your phone number in the top navigation bar, make it a clickable tel: link on mobile, and add a WhatsApp click-to-chat button that is visible on every page. One tap, immediate connection.

Fix 2: Add a WhatsApp button above the fold

Fix 02

WhatsApp is how business communication happens in India. If a potential customer cannot reach you on WhatsApp from your website in two taps, you are losing leads to competitors who make it easier.

The best placement: a fixed floating button in the bottom-right corner that stays visible as users scroll, plus a prominent CTA button in your hero section. The message can be pre-filled: "Hi, I found you on your website and wanted to ask about [service]."

Fix 3: Write a clear headline that says what you do

Fix 03

Your homepage headline should answer one question in five seconds: "What do you do and who is it for?" Most small business websites fail this test. Headlines like "Welcome to Our Website" or "Excellence in Service Since 2012" say nothing useful.

Compare: "CA Firm in Pune for Startups and Professionals" versus "Your Trusted Partner in Financial Excellence." The first one tells a prospect immediately whether they are in the right place. The second one tells them nothing.

Fix 4: Show social proof near the top of the page

Fix 04

Trust is the biggest conversion barrier for local businesses. People have been burned by providers who did not deliver. Before they enquire, they need evidence that you are real and that others have had a good experience.

Social proof that works: Google review snippets with star ratings (link to your GBP), two or three short client testimonials with names and business types, and logos of recognisable clients or certifications. Place at least one trust signal within the first screen of your homepage — not at the bottom where few people scroll.

Fix 5: Make your contact form shorter

Fix 05

Every extra field in a contact form reduces the conversion rate. A form asking for name, email, phone, business type, budget range, timeline, and "how did you hear about us" is a form people abandon halfway through.

For most local businesses, three fields are enough: name, phone or WhatsApp number, and a one-line message. You can collect everything else on a discovery call. The goal of the form is to get the conversation started — not to pre-qualify leads before you have even spoken to them.

Fix 6: Fix your page load speed on mobile

Fix 06

If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load on a mobile connection, over half your visitors will leave before the page even appears. This is not a design problem — it is a technical one, but it has a direct and measurable impact on enquiries.

Common causes of slow mobile load times on Pune business websites: oversized images (photos straight from a DSLR camera loaded at full size), cheap shared hosting in the US or Europe, too many plugin scripts running on WordPress, and unoptimised Google Fonts loading. Tools like PageSpeed Insights (free from Google) will tell you exactly what is slowing your site down.

Fix 7: Add a clear call to action on every page

Fix 07

Every page on your website should have one clear next step for the visitor. It is not enough to have a "Contact Us" link in the navigation. Each page should end with a specific, relevant CTA: "Book a free consultation", "Get a quote for your project", "Chat with us on WhatsApp."

The CTA should be specific to the page content. A page about your GST filing services should say "Get your GST filing sorted — book a call" not a generic "Get in touch."

Fix 8: Write about your process, not just your services

Fix 08

One of the biggest reasons potential clients don't enquire is uncertainty about what happens next. They do not know how you work, what is expected of them, or whether they can afford you.

Add a simple "How we work" or "What to expect" section to your website. Three to four steps, written plainly: "Step 1: Discovery call (30 minutes, free) — we understand your project and your goals. Step 2: We send a fixed-price proposal within 48 hours. Step 3: Project kickoff once you confirm." This removes the uncertainty that stops people from reaching out.

Quick audit: Open your website on your phone right now. Can you find a phone number in 5 seconds? Is there a WhatsApp button? Does the headline tell you what the business does and who it serves? If the answer to any of these is no, you have found your first fix.

The common thread

All eight fixes have the same underlying principle: make it easier for the right person to take the next step. Most website conversion problems are not design problems — they are clarity problems. Visitors cannot enquire about something they do not understand or cannot easily act on.

You do not need a complete website redesign to fix most of these. A few targeted changes can meaningfully improve how many enquiries your website generates within days of being made.
